Abstract
|
|
|
The author analyzed the seizure types, clinical symptoms, and laboratory findings in 72 epileptic children who visited the department of pediatrics of Seoul Red Cross Hostpital for 6 years from 1986 to 1991.
1) Of the 72 epileptic children, 90.3% were generalized seizures, 9.7% were partial seizures. The most common type was tonic-clonic seizure(79.2%).
2) The presumed causes of epilepsy were cerebral palsy or mental retardation(8.3%), perinatal asphyxia(5.7%), head trauma(5.7%), meningitis or encephalitis(5.7%), tuberous sclerosis(2.8%) and oligodendroglioma(1.4%).
3) The incidence of pastmedical history of febrile seizure was 6.9% and the incidence of family history of neurologic disease was 9.7%.
4) The abnomal EEG findings were found in 81.9%.
5) The abnomal findings in brain CT were found in 25.6% The common abnormal findings were cerebral infarction, brain atrophy, abnormal calcification and hydrocephalus in order of frequency.
6) The effective control rate of epileptic patients with antiepileptic drugs was 84.7%.
